Mirror mirror on the wall
Who’s this stranger I see
You say it’s my reflection
Yet this I don’t believe
Mirror mirror on the wall
The stranger, yes he mocks
Dishevelled in appearance
Sitting bottom of the rocks.
Mirror mirror on the wall
Had we been acquainted once?
Then why don’t I recognise him,
This sad and sullen dunce.
Mirror mirror on the wall
Yes I can see it now
Through the veil shielding his eyes
As far as the seeing eye allows.
Mirror mirror on the wall
My finger points at him
His finger points right back
And so the games begin.
Man in the mirror
Now I speak to you direct
Choosing my words tactfully
To make you pause and reflect.
When all is said and done
And the waking world’s asleep
It’s you at once I turn to
In search of wisdom, just a peek.
Of all the people whom I’ve met
It’s you who knows me most
Two sides of the same damn coin
Raise my glass. Raise yours. Prost.
I blame you not, my friend
For failures past and done
Yet we cannot continue as two
We must now proceed as one.
So man in the mirror
To you I now implore
Step aside and let me through
Through the sacred door.
What I shall find now
Waiting on the other side
You shall never know
For in you, I shan’t confide.
You have done your part, friend
Yes, you’ve played it well
So to you I simply smile
As I bid you a fond farewell.
